EVERYDAY MATH
Our math curriculum meets the NCTM guidelines and will be used with a variety of resources. The math program builds on skills that have been introduced in previous grades. We will focus on problem solving and math reasoning and develop number sense and appreciation for math in the everyday world. Calculators will be used when appropriate. Our math lessons will involve the use of math journals, a math skills and reference book, hands-on explorations and home links. The math program also includes unit testing. Cooperative learning is encouraged throughout a variety of math games and problem solving. Math application problems (MAPS) are also imbedding into weekly lessons. Knowledge of basic facts is a necessity and we will continue to practice this area throughout the year.
